I can't stop windows from trying to install WinDVD. I have no idea why it's
doing this I don't have or want WinDVD installed. It keeps asking for the
installation disk.

How can I get rid of these messages?

Trevor,

You have WinDVD on your machine & it may have been corrupt or you've opened
the application & it needs something from that disc (just the MSI probably).

WinDVD adds itself to startup. To get rid of this message you should remove
it from your system or remove the RUN key. Removing that RUN key will stop
it short term, but it will still be there lingering in the background ready
to annoy you again

To Remove:

Click START
Click CONTROL PANEL
Click ADD/REMOVE programs
Select WinDVD & remove it

To remove the startup key:

People will ask you to use MSCONFIG, but I am not a fan of this almost
useless application. A better free program is Autorun:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/autoruns.mspx

When you run look at the LOGON tab for the two RUN keys. Its more likely on
the HKCU RUN key.

Just remove the tick or if you are feeling brave right-click & delete (CTRL
+ D).

I hope this solves your problem,

One option is to run the Windows Installer Clean up Utility and remove an
reference to WinDVD.

Rock,

It may work but again you have to be very careful using that utility because
anything wrongly removed will result in re-installation of that application.
That is documented by Microsoft & you should always warn the user of this
fact. Pretty lapse on your part

Have downloaded the installer but when I run it I get a message 'can't find
script engine VBScript for scrip C:/............StartMsi.vbs

WinDVD doesn't appear in the add/remove programs.

Also tried all three restore points that are recent but before this started
and none of them will work

Do you mean it didn't complete the restore or it did, but that didn't change
things? If the former take a look at the troubleshooting steps on Bert
Kinney's System Restore page. If not disregard.
