Ben

I have about 20 documents that I want to merge as one and
then put links on the front page to point to each page,
how do i do this??

Use Insert | File to append each file at the end. Assuming the title of each
document is in the same heading style, you can create a Table of Contents
using Insert | Reference | Index and Tables.

I followed your recommendation
1. created three documents: x1, x2 and x3.
2. link x2 and x3 to x1 by using insert / file
3. tried to do the Table of Contents by
4. insert / in my word 2000 I do not have your "reference" so I proceeded to
index and tables and this is what I got

Error! No table of contents entries found. This is a test x1
This is a test x2
This is a test x3

Could you help me? thanks

I'm not sure how that works. You might have to use RD fields?
