Merging .avi files for a longer movie?

Thanks for your reply. Can you kindly tell me where "MovieMaker" is? Also,

But, beware the 2G/4G file size limit on certain .AVI
types...lots of them won't play if you exceed
this size.
 
That's a FAT32 limitation. I've had 66gb AVI files on my hard drives and
they play just fine thanks. You should think about converting your drive(s)
to NTFS.

No, it isn't...

Certain types of .AVI files will NOT play
if they're over 2G/4G regardless of what filesystem
they live on.

It's a limitation of the Video for Windows filestruc.

Those of us who work heavily with captured analog video have
known about this for years - capture apps exist specifically written to
get around the problem...

Not all of us work with DV .AVI files, which are likely
what you've got and don't exhibit the problem.
 
I just captured a 5gb analog file yesterday! Not a problem anywhere. VHS
tape through an nVidia VIVO card. Just for fun, I captured it three times,
with PowerDirector, with Roxio EMC and with MovieMaker2.1 (OK, MM2 would
only capture as a 800mb WMV but it happily saved it as a 15gb DV-AVI
afterwards).

And nothing specialist anything on my PCs.

full of nifty WMV artifacts-charming...

CERTAIN analog CODEC's can create .AVI's of ANY size, certain
ones cannot. HuffYUV can, older Indeo CODEC's cannot, if ya
wanna get specific.

Just making a blanket statement that "it's the filesystem"
is misinformation of the worst kind, and will make many
a desktop video newbie throw up his/her hands in frustration.

Re-read the MSKB link I posted, paying special attention
to the difference between .AVI's that are created using
VfW apps, and those that are created using DirectShow
capable apps.

Not all of us are living in isolation using the brain-dead
Movie Maker, ya know...

I downloaded an AVI file (7.92 MB) and windows movie maker or nero 6 will
open it. Im new to all this file jargon and ive had a really bad headache
since I got my dvd/cd burner. mpeg, svcd, mp3 work fine but not AVI.
