No, I mean writing macros to intercept the commands involved or editing Word
itself.
If you remove it from the menus, the only way someone is going to be able to
access it is to (a) add it back to the menu, (b) use Tools => Macros => Word
Commands and then find the right command, or (c) write (not record) a macro
to call it. Are any of your users likely to be doing this?
Intercept macros could be defeated by (b) or (c), I believe. Editing Word is
way beyond my abilities and would probably be illegal.
You might (1) write a corporate policy prohibiting use of the compare
document feature and (2) write an intercept procedure which blocks and logs
such attempts (leaving the command on your menus). You might also consider
getting different consultants who can work with the Word processing program
you've chosen.
You might call on your MS support contract to see if you can get a registry
hack that will do this. I don't know of any, but I'm generally ignorant of
registry hacks.
