Menu disappears when I click on excel object.

When I double click an embedded excel sheet in my word document, the menu and
toolbars disappear, leaving only the formula bar. How do I keep it form
doing this?

version of Word? Exactly what is in this formula bar?

When you double-click an OLE object, the default action (IIRC) is to
open this open _in place_ in its host application (Excel).
