I am buying a new dell laptop 8600 with xp pro. I do a lot
of spreadsheet work and some internet. How much memory
should i get and 1 or 2 Dimm? I was thinking 512 is that
enough?

512MB of RAM is ideal for Windows XP Pro.
Also consider ordering the new MS Office 2003.

512M is enough to run XP comfortably but with the low price of RAM I would
go with 1G. That would allow you plenty of headroom to have multiple
applications running and ensure you have enough for applications that are
probably just around the corner.
