tell me why!!!, is there a REALLY big program that blocks my computer?, btw
im running xp home, sp2

That question is impossible to answer without knowing what apps. you have
installed in addition to XP.

I would suggest running Disk Cleanup if you haven't already.

Start>All Programs>Accessories>System tools>Disk Cleanup.

do you think i sould format my computer, maby it sould fix the problem?
all my cards are intergrated on my computer, i tried calculating the cost of
an upgrade, it sould cost me less to get a computer thats x4 better than my
computer for the same price. -.-

Run Disk Cleanup before you consider anything else.

If the files/folders on your current drive are near and dear to you, back
them up, (make a copy of them) , and format and re-install xp. It wouldn't
surprise me if you filled up the 80 GB drive in a hurry again though. You
may want to consider just buying a second HD.

I'm not sure why you mention how much RAM you have when discussing "clearing
up disk space," but since you mentioned it, let me point out that that's far
to little for almost everybody, and you should expect very poor performance
with so little RAM.

deleted almost everything posible on my computer, all games exept
world of warcraft(personal favorite), all my music and pictures, all

You're saying as if everyone should assume that that's a problem. You are
apparently using 79% of your 80GB drive (about 64GB). So? Why is that a
problem? I'm using much more disk space than 64GB (about 150GB) here.

is there a REALLY big program that blocks my
computer?, btw im running xp home, sp2

Why do you think anything "blocks" your computer? If you have music,
pictures, movies, etc. on your drive, you need to be aware that all these
things can use lots of disk space. There's nothing unusual about what you've
said, and no indication of any problem at all.

Ugh! Why? He hasn't said said anything that even *suggests* that that might
be an appropriate thing to do. He appears to have a lot of big files on his
drive. That's a reality, not a problerm, and if he reformats and reinstalls,
then restores his backup, he'll be in the same situation immediately.

It wouldn't surprise me if you filled up the 80 GB drive in a hurry
again though.

Exactly!

Hi Ken,

I just had to throw that out, as I wonder if things are as they really
appear to be--"housekeeping-wise". I agree with you whole-heartedly.

First a bit of terminology. "Memory" is generally reserved for
references to RAM memory. Hard drive space is referred to as just
that, or as storage or as disk space.

You may have downloaded a lot of files and saved these to your
computer. That could have used up a fair amount of disk space.

A few things you can do:

1. Run Disk Cleanup (in Accessories - System Tools). Make sure the
options to clean up both Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files
are selected. The other items listed are not that important unless
they are consuming several hundred megabytes of disk space.

2. Reduce the amount of disk space allocated to System Restore. Use
Control Panel - System - System Restore, select Drive C: and click on
the Settings button. Move the slider so as to select a value
somewhere between 800 mb and 1200 mb - it will probably be quite a bit
higher.

3. Reduce the amount of disk space allocated to Temporary Internet
Files. If you have a high speed Internet connection there is little
to be gained by having a substantial amount of disk space allocated
for this. Use Control Panel - Internet Options and click on the
Settings button for Temporary Internet Files. Change the disk space
to something between 50 and 80 mb, unless you have a dial-up Internet
connection in which case you should probably leave it at around 250
mb.

Good luck

Exactly!

That depends how much junk is on there he just can't find. I bought a
second hard drive for my home PC, set it as primary, installed the OS and
the programs I needed, and rarely even look at the files on the old HD
anymore. Disk space used could be from anything. Programs installed could
be bigger than he thinks. With 128 RAM, Windows could be using a lot of HD
for a swap file. He could have AOL, with downloaded files saved to it's own
directory and he only checked Windows' My Documents directory...

I suggest looking online for a disk hog program. I believe there are
multiple programs online, available to download and run for free, which can
chart a hard drive and show folders with percentages and identify where that
space went.
