You're missing 32 Mb. Most likely you have a Compaq/HP/Gateway/Sony/other
"name" computer, which has 32 Mb of "shared" video memory. It takes it from
the main memory. If you want it back, get a third-party video card (such as
an nVidia GeForce) and disable the onboard - or set it as low as possible.
If it allows you to.
This sounds like a machine with an on-board video controller rather than
a separate video card, and it is being allotted 32 MB of the main RAM to
use. You could probably cut this down to say 16 in the BIOS setup, but
the difference in the context of 512 is trivial and I'd leave things
alone
32 MB is being used by the video card that is built in on
the motherboard
