Why can`t I get a Belkin F5U126 memory stick to work.
I have a newish computer (six months old) `bare bones` system with Windows XP installed.

When accessing `My computer` under `Devices with Removable Storage` , only 31/2" Floppy Disc (A:) and CD (C:) drives are shown.

I know there should be other drives eg. (E:), (I:), (J:) etc.

What do I need to do.

Install the drivers from the manufacturer.
Contact the manufacturer for help (6 months old?)

Your Belkin memory stick may not be the correct type for your system.. go to
www.crucial.com and check to see if it is the right one for your system..

Next point.. 'removable' storage.. how many CD and floppy drives do you
have?.. just one of each?.. and your system shows one of each?.. why is that
a surprise?..

A 'bare bones' computer is only that at the point where one buys it.. when
connected to a screen, keyboard, mouse et al, it becomes a 'system'

What you need to do next.. get a coffee or tea, whatever relaxes you best,
sit in front of your computer and think about what you have typed,
especially re. 'removable' drives.. of course, all drives are technically
removable, but not in the same way as a floppy disk or CD..

This is a USB memory stick?

What happens when you insert it into your computer's USB port? Do you
get a "found new hardware" popup followed by a couple more as it
installs and configures the new device?

Are you certain that the USB port that you are using for the memory
stick is working? Do you have another USB device that you is being
recognized okay that you can connect to that specific port and see if
it is detected there?

Is the USB port you are using for the memory stick on the front of
your computer? These front USB ports are connected to the motherboard
by a cable, and it is possible that the cable is not properly seated
or has become dislodged. Can you try using the memory stick in a
different USB port, preferably one on the back of the computer and
which you know is working because you have used other USB devices with
that specific port?

Good luck
