I know very little about the hardware side of computers
but would be very grateful for some advice on why my
computer is running very slow. In hardware info it says I
have 128MB of memory detected and minimum requirement
64MB. It also says disk partition on C drive is 32% with
warning sign of low. I have deleted all temporary
internet files, completed a disk clean up and disk
fragmenter but none of this has changed the above figures
of low memory and disk space. Hope this makes some sense
and someone can assit me!!

Thank you whoever you are in anticipation of your
assistance.

Hi well your problem is your hard drive is almost full
you probably need a bigger hard drive and you need more
memory, at least 256 in total, and i'm guessing you are
runnging windows xp pro or home verstion so you should
have at least 256 megs of ram installed

If you open Help/Support in xp,open tools, select, view software and hardware
installed on computer, youll get another look at the problem(s).
Usually all boards will support 512mb of ram (memory),purchasing another
hard drive with larger capacity is good, then install xp on that, then open search
at microsoft.com,type:virtual memory
Get the details on setting the old hd as the paging file, which also adds memory
to the computer.

When they are talking about adequate hardware they are talking
about any hardware that has to utilize CPU cycles or system RAM,
eg: no ram on video card, winmodem, software firewall, virus software
or anything else that is running in the background.

Hi, Irene.

Well, 128 MB will run WinXP, as you see, but not at top speed, especially if
you are doing very much graphics work or if you have several programs
running at once. You would be happier with 256 MB; these days, 512 MB seems
to be the "sweet spot" in the trade-off between cost and performance. Since
we don't know how YOU use YOUR computer, all we can tell you is "generic"
advice like that.

How large is your hard drive? Is it all in a single partition (Drive C:),
or divided into smaller partitions? It's not clear whether you mean that
the drive is 32% full or 32% empty. Either way, if it is 20 GB or larger,
that means you have at least 6 GB free, which should not prompt a warning.
You say you deleted TIFs and ran Disk Cleanup and saw no improvement. If
you did not Empty your Recycle Bin after this, then those "deleted" files
are in the bin - and still using up just as much disk space as before. See
if your numbers improve after you empty the bin. Defragmenting your HD
should help performance, but it just moves files around without deleting
any. Deleting files from your HD would have NO effect on memory.
