Hi,
I have what seems to be a memory problem.
When I click on a program menu (like "file") or on
the "start/all programs", it takes a too long time to open
completely, sometimes up to 2-3 seconds. I see in the
beginning an empty list or a semi-transperant, until it
settles.
Also, my computer has 512RAM, the virtual memory is set
high (768 and 2304, as Microsoft suggests) in custom, no
paging. I always keep my startup programs at the minimum, .
My disc is of 40 Giga is only 1/3 full.
I have run lately a defrag (the original as well as System
Mechanics) and have cleaned my registry (also with Sytsem
Mechanics. Nothing helped.
I also tried a RAM defrag tool, but it did not help. Hope
someone can help

If your computer has an onboard audio chip, it is using
processor and memory resources. I would suggest installing
a dedicated PCI sound card. Otherwise , you can try the
following:

Right-click on MY Computer and select:
Properties > Advanced > Performance (Settings)
and uncheck the following, then click Apply:

-- Show shadows under menus
-- Show shadows under mouse pointer
-- Show translucent selection rectangle
-- Show windows contents while dragging
-- Use a background image for each folder type

Thanks Carey,
Being more "papal", I decided to uncheck all of the
settings - who need them anyhow.
All the best
