Memory Module Not Recognized

I have an old Toshiba Satellite 2805-S201 laptop with Windows ME and original
64MB of RAM. I added 128MB right after I purchased the computer in 2001. The
memory module ran fine until I installed Windows XP Home Ed. with Service
Pack 2 last week. The computer slows down substantially. I found out from
Windows Task Manager and System Info that there is only 64MB of physical
memory on my computer. I tried re-installing the memory module, updated the
bios but still the module is not recognized.

Is there any fix for this problem? Or should I just come back to Windows ME?

Thanks

XP is a little more demanding on matched memory.
Here is what Crucial says on their site's memory selector...

Windows (including XP) does not "turn off" RAM modules. It could be that
the module is defective or that the laptop BIOS does not access it.
