memory errors

getting error message:
The instruction at "0x77ec83c4" referenced memory
at "0x00400067". The memory could not be "read".

according to the knowledge base there is a hotfix, but you
have to contact microsoft to get it, anyone know of
another way i can get it?
 
says i need my product id in order to contact them, i no
longer have it. and the computer i am getting the error on
won't go online, which im hoping if i fix this error it
will fix my non-connection problem.
 
I have resolved my problem. i was getting this message as
a result of a corrupt winsock/winsock32 registry entry
