my problems started about two weeks ago with the ebay
popups so to combat that i added the url to the restricted
section in the internet options

now i have a new problem and im not sure if its related

when im surfing the net everything seems to freeze and in
the windows task manager it shows me that ie6 is using the
cpu way too much and for a while it freezes..

then when i have finished with the page i cant close it
unless i end the process in task manager..

has anyone had this problem and know of a fix...

ive tried to delete ie.. but i cant get rid of it i remove
it but its still there.. short of a full format which i
dont want to do.. im at a loss as to what to do next

thanks to anyone who can help

Helen

Helen,
The first thing to do is to scan your system for the possibility of
unknown\unwanted spyware or parasites that may be causing your problem(s).

Helen,
Do follow Mike's recommendations - Question - do you have the e-bay toolbar installed?
It may have installed itself without your consent.
If so post back and let us know, they e-bay toolbar *is* Spyware.

I'm having an almost identical problem with IE6 on WinXP. I've found that
if I disable "Active Scripting" it speeds back up to normal again.
Of course, this isn't a fix, since so many pages use scripting, they're
useless without it.
I've gone through 2 spyware/adware removal apps, and 2 registry cleaners.
I've reinstalled IE6, updated my video drivers, updated DirectX, searched
the MS knowledgebase, posted on forums. And now I'm just starting to pull
my hair out.

Any insight into why this is happening?

-thx

I have the exact same issue in a Terminal Server
environment. I have done the same as you Gandalf, but
nothing seems to work. Let me know if you discover
a "cure",

Steve

Helen,
