Media Player doesnt stop!!!

For the last week I've had a problem with Media player. When I'm playing a file (MP3) and click "close media player" (X in top right corner), the player apparently closes but the music continues. I have to stop the playback first and then close the player down. I cannot see a setting to correct this

Any ideas??
