What do you do when you try and play a .wmv or .avi file and you get an
error message about codecs? Are you just stuck or is there a "universal"
program that allows viewing? Thanks, Steve T.

On some occasions, there could be a dialog box that allows the
user to connect to Microsoft Update in order to download the
necessary codec(s). This works if the codec exists for the
particular version of Media Player. On other times, it might be
necessary to update Media Player to a newer version. All of this
is due to the application that originated the *.wmv or *.avi file.

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the
file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file"
File does not play on either ver 10 or 11 with updated codecs. Thanks, Steve
T.

I fixed mmy problem. It seems that a plug-in in WMP 11 causes the
problem. Access the Tools --> Options ---> Plug-ins. Then in Category
and uncheck the InterVideo movieEffect in Wideo DSP. So far, I can
"play" most videos again.

Thanks for the input but I have nothing in Category when I click on Video
DSP. In fact, going through all of the plugins; I only have Musicmatch
Plugin in the Category window. Steve T.
