play something of the internet. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have installed Windows Media Player 10, you can roll back to the
version of the Player that was on your computer before installation by
doing the following:

1.In Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs.

2.Click Remove a program, and then do one of the following:

• If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 2, at the top of the list,
select the Show updates check box, in the Windows Updates section, click
Windows Media Player 10, and then click Change/Remove.

• If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 1 or earlier, click Windows
Media Player 10, and then click Change/Remove.

You can also use System Restore to roll back to the previous version of
the Player.

I would simply reinstall it; do NOT apply any hotfixes OTHER THAN the ones
from WU. The "optional" hotfixes that you may find in the KB should only
be applied if you're having the specifically-stated problem. I've seen it
all-of-a-sudden stop dl'ing streams right when these hotfixes are
installed, the fix was a fresh reinstall which reverted everything to the
latest baseline; get it here:

[avoid the WMP 11 BETA for now, it's bugggggggggggggyyyyyyyyy!]

a fresh install _AND_ a visit to WU should bring you up to rev 4036
