Real Alternative. Comes bundled with MPC as well.

I also think I read something about some new 0.8.5-something version of
VLC supporting Real media, but I cannot confirm this.

And I forgot to put on my glasses. Ah well.

Jet Audio, then? http://www.cowonamerica.com/products/jetaudio/

If that also fails, are you sure that your files are valid .ram files?
Where did you get them?

I have used both of these programs as well as Real Player (in my
opinion) the most abominable computer home-wrecker ever unleashed upon
the unsuspecting public (except for viruses).

Media Player Classic is nice, down-home (if your home is on the great
plains of Hungary), and benign. It's safe software. It handles Real
formats quite nicely, and also handles other formats, too; even more
with plugins. I find MPC a bit rough around the edges, but it's reliable
and satisfactory. Real is always tinkering with their codecs, and I
think that there are a number of different ones in use, depending on
which content provider you're downloading from. Sometimes, I've found
that MPC/RA won't play a particular Real permutation properly, or at all.

JetAudio is much slicker and from a corporate source. You can dress it
up with skins. I haven't tried it in some time, so things may have
changed. It's got home comforts that MPC lacks, such as user-loadable
equalizer presets (MPC has no equalizer). As I recall, you have to
register it. The publisher has to make their money somehow, right? So
they are into digital rights management, which is a technology realm
that always worries me -- as in, what happens if it screws up? Will it
mess up my registry? (Paranoia like that.) Will it eat the music that
you bought?

I liked the way that JetAudio handles; I felt that the program was
well-crafted and enjoyable to use. If well behaved, I'd prefer this one
to MPC.

Hope that this helps. If you try JetAudio, please give a review here.
It's been a while since anyone mentioned it and a catchup would be nice.
Thanks.

Richard

I googled the ACF archives. Yours seems to be the first suggestion that
this app might be Registerware. I've done a little checking - IF
registration is required it's part of the installation process - it's
not required to download the app. This is the info on the ACF page -
please advise if corrections are needed.
