can any one advise why i would be recieving a error message that comes up
when i go to shut down XP windows
this error message i get is
media heat sink has failed to shut down properly
i click on it a hundred times and it fails to stop reaccuring
which means i can only shut down the pc by turning the power off at the wall
any one had this problem or give advise?

thanks

It sounds like you have a program called "media heat sink" running. I
don't find anything by Googling, but since you can see your computer
and I can't, you will know best what you have installed.

If this doesn't sound familiar, then make sure your computer is virus
and malware-free since nasty programs often don't want to exit so you
can shut down gracefully.

Go through these general malware removal steps systematically -

You can also go through this excellent shutdown troubleshooter:
http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA).

Try using Process Explorer while your PC is running at look for a process
that has the same or nearly the name as the error message.
SysInternals Process Explorer:
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html
Once you have this utility running click on the process to highlight it and
then right click and select the Google option.
They also have a utility named AutoRuns which will identify apps and
processes that are loaded when you boot your PC which is most likely when
Media Heat Sink is loaded.
