I have Windows XP Professional SP2 with current updates.
I recently tried to install a Hauppage WinTv model 401 in my computer. I was
having problems with it from the start this was on Saturday April 22. Tuesday
April 25 I was fed up with it and removed it from my system. I tried to do a
system restore on my computer to undo the weird changes I started to notice.
One file I have with PowerPoint files in them, should have been about 30mb
and it said it was 319gb and I do not have that much storage combined. In
various files with *.jpg, *.bmp, *.avi, *.ram, *.wma, *.mpg were suddenly
corrupted. I have Norton Antivirus and Firewall and ran a remote scan from
their website and nothing was detected. I even went to Trend Micro and had
them run a remote scan and nothing was found. The .jpg, .bmp and .gif appear
to be going away from the bottom up. I have a part time job that requires me
to send photos and scan documents and upload them, several of these files are
gone and windows cannot open them. One file for the month of March should
have been about 30 MB and windows explorer says it is 4kb. I have tried
deleting files and getting errors that the source disk cannot be read. I have
run hdd diagnostics and nothing. What could be causing this? I have tried
updating Media player and that did not fix it, I system restored in safe mode
to go back to the original and now I get the error that it expected one
version and got another and takes me to the download site which only gives
the choice to download 10 and when I do that it says this media player is not
for this version of windows.
