Hi
I would like to know how to go about developing an application which
can sync folders of the same user on the internet, in the same lines as
foldershare.com . Do they rely on the CIFL(common internet file system)
or do they create their own private p2p networks?

Rahul;

I don't know anything about cifl but I've used a few sync apps. It
sounds like you may want to check out Prof Pierce's work over at the
University of Pennsylvania...

Check out his team's work on Unison and Harmony. Everything they've
been releasing is under gpl and there are a lot of supporting papers, etc.

g'luck,

now that microsoft bought foldershare.com
and they added folder sync in the new msn messenger live,

I dont see how a program can compete against them....

sorry, I was stupid...

of course someone can make a program that can compete with MS...

perhaps a multiplatform program, that has a very intuitive interface...?

Perhaps a web service? (there were some last time I looked)...

I have been using foldershare since it first came out... and I know a few
things
that would make such programs far better...

if you need any ideas, tell me...
