Meaning of Message?

I receive a Microsoft Excel message box with the
following message:

"Excel cannot complete this task with available
resources. Choose less data or close other applications"

The workbook that generates the message has many, many
links to an external workbook. My guess is Excel has a
limit to the number of external links that it can handle.

Can anybody tell me more about this message?

Suggestions on how to get rid of it?
