My son, who is in college purchased a XP professional disc full version, that says it is unlicensed software and must be used with licensed software. It was purchased at the University Bookstore. He has the licensed software (ME verstion)with the computer, but when he tries to install XP he ends up with two operating systems, and virtually no software on the XP part of the operating system. His computer came with digital editiing software. Is there a way to just transfer the software to the XP part. We have tried an XP upgrade and had a problem getting his CD and DVD to work and the downloads don't see to correct it. We just want to have XP working without having to buy new software, since we own old software from the original computer.

Are you sure it says "unlicensed"? That sounds close to being illegal.

If you have an upgrade or a full retail version, you should be able to do an
upgrade and keep most of your software intact. But you still might need to
reinstall some, so have the disks handy.

I'm not sure what sort of software you have, so you might not be able to
upgrade.

There is no way to transfer programs the way you want to. They have to be
installed for the OS.
