I have VERY importantant info on floppies from my Compaq ME 2000. I recently purchased a Dell XP w/the 2003
Office and Excel programs. I cannot open any ME 2000 floppies on the XP. I love my XP but never dreamed that there would be a wall between them. I have searched everywhere for info to solve this problem. The ME has Windows 98. Can anyone tell me something about this problem? I have a hard time believing that Microsoft would create such a problem. There mUST be a solution somewhere

Thanks for any advice

Jeanna :)

Copy the files from your floppy disks to your hard drive. Then right-click
on a file and select: "Open with" and choose the correct Office program.

If you have VERY important info on floppies then I hope it's not too important. Try formatting the floppies before using them, try formatting the floppies on XP. XP won't always read pre formatted floppies (cause they are incorrectly formatted in a technical sense, 98 just ignores the wrong part alltogether, even on a correctly formatted floppy, calculating the correct value instead of reading it from the disk.). Floppy drives are cheap and they can no longer all read each others disks. Esp if one is new and one is old.

Only solution at the present time is to find an old floppy drive driver. You
need one that has the capability to format the 750. 1.22 and 1.44. The driver
included with XP will format 1.44 only. You can probably find an older driver
if you search for it.
