get an error message saying On-Scanner service stopped working
this prevents from sending e-mail messages any help out there
please

The best help is to un-install McAfee and replace it with a real anti-virus
application. They have a terrible track record of intentionally not
reporting Trojans in the past that other anti-virus vendors have reported.
They have recently stated that they will also not report any Trojan created
by any government of the world for the purpose of monitoring its citizens
though no government admits that any such Trojans exist.

I do not want my anti-virus vendor picking and choosing what it will report
or not report. It works for me and not for anyone else, including the
government. What happens if these Trojans get hacked, modified to report to
non-government servers, and spread by criminals? What happens if a foreign
government (foreign to any country - even the USA to other countries besides
the US) uses such Trojans for industrial espionage?

It is not the role of an anti-virus or network security company to willingly
deceive its customers and not report known malware that it is otherwise
designed to report.

Ditch McAfee and get a real antivirus software like Avast or AVG-free. You
will sleep better.

Yes, I paid McAfee and they are keeping my $30.00 though I have used them for
years. They just told me that they would have a new McAfee for Vista later
on. Sure, that will be great. I will just unplug until you decide to ship me
what I paid for or rreturn my money; I cannot afford another till I get my
money back as I am on a fixed income

Robert, there are free alternatives that you could use until a new version
is available. I've found Avast, www.avast.com, works quite well. Well
enough in fact that I replaced my former "paid" antivirus application,
eTrust AntiVirus from Computer Associates with Avast.

1. Open Windows mail

3. Select "Accountants"
4. Remove all accountants but your own.
5.Fully install Mcafee (add deleted options). or reinstall it.
6.Restart computer.
7. Repeat steps 1-3
8. With "Accountants" window open Select the "Properties" button.
9. Check off box: "Include this accountant when recieving mail or
synchronizing".
10. Next click the "Servers" tab next to the "General" tab.
11. Delete and fill in your "E-mail username" & "Password"
12. Next Check off the box: My server requires Authentication"
13. Now you can click the "Settings..." button.
14. Select "log on using"
15. Fill in your "E-mail username & Password" the same as step 11.
16. Check off "Remember password" Box.
17. Hit OK.
18. Restart computer.
19. DONE!
I have found this to be more a problem with the internet provided. My Mcafee
is fully installed and working fine.
The following (if you're interested) is what I'm running.
A Dell XPS 410
Dual Core 2 E6600 (2.4GHZ)
2GB DDR2 SDRAM @ 667 MHZ
ATI Radeon X1300 PRO 256 MB
Mcafee 36 month subscription
Windows Vista Home Premium

GOOD LUCK!!!!
