Maxtor, McAfee Rebates Denied

After purchasing a Maxtor hard drive and McAfee Internet Security, I filled
out the miserable paperwork, cut out the upc's and/or proof of purchases,
etc and mailed the rebate forms promptly. About 2 weeks later, I received
emails saying both were denied for mistakes. Careful comparing the copy I
made myself showed that the mistakes did not exist. Both gave Resubmission
addresses - and interestingly enough, both went to PO Box 028516, Miami, FL
33102-8516.

Sounds like a scam - I'm writing Maxtor and McAfee - If I don't get my
rebates, do you think I'll ever buy from either again?

Al is pissed!

Possibly not a scam, at least not because of the same address for the
rebate.

Many companies use "outsourcing" for this type of service and it could
be that both Maxtor and McAfee have contracted with the same company
to do this work for them.

I would try it again.

I also had all my past rebates fulfilled. Most rebates are handled by a
"clearing house" and all must follow a strict code for the rebate. It could
be that the person handling it mistyped it into the data base. That is why
a lot of the rebate fulfilment companies now have web site where you can
check on the status of your rebate(s).
