Is there a maximum size of the backup file created when backing up my
personal folders? I seem to be stuck at a maximum size of 986,065 KB, but my
system administrator thought that the maximum was around 2 GB.

Thanks for any help.......TJB5832

If your PST is Unicode compliant (created in Outlook 2003 and not compatible
with older versions of Outlook), your size limit will be around 20GB. If
your PST is ANSI-compliant (created with a version of Outlook older than 2003
or created with 2003 in the format compatible with older Outlook versions),
then your SysAdmin is right. The limit is just under 2GB.

What app are you using to create your backup? If you are using, for
instance, the backup application built in to Windows, then I have no clue
what size limits may apply there.

Good luck,

A PST is a PST. ANSI PSTs )Outlook 97-2002) have the same size limit as all
other ANSI PSTs (2 GB) and all Unicode PSTS (Outlook 2003 and above) have
the same size limit as all other Unicode PSTs (32 TB).

Brian:

Where do you get your info about the Unicode PSTs? The following article
from M$ indicates a size limit of 20 GB--or at least that users can
experience performance decreases if they go above that size. That's
obviously not an issue for TJB5832 at this point, but I think it's good to
include potential "gotchas" just the same.

Thank you, BT and TBGG, for your responses. Sounds like I should be at least
able to do 2 GB. I'm still not sure what the problem is, but I'll kick it
around again with my Administrator.........TJB5832

Thank you for your prompt reply. In answer to your question, I used the .pst
backup utility downloaded from Microsoft. ---TJB5832

That's the theoretical limit and it has been posted in this newsgroup
innumerable times by people whom I trust to know the answer. A number in
the registry, to me, doesn't constitute a limit if it can be made higher.

If you're using an ANSI PST (Outlook 97-2002 format), you can start having
trouble with it at aroung 1.6 GB.
