9 ? 10 ? can up to 16 ? (with matrox graphic card)

There's no limit.

There is a limit of 10 in XP's applet to configure the screen but this
isn't an actual limit on the number of monitors. You'll have to use
third-party software to configure your screens if you go past 10.
