Max # of Names on a Distribution List

There doesn't have to be a name in the TO: field to send.
All you need is a name in any of the TO, CC or BCC
fields. When it is sent it will automatically enter your
name (or the name of the default email account you use) in
the TO field.

As for the # of names on a DL, I don't know that for
sure. I do know that an Exchange server is limited and I
think it maxes out at 100 per list. As for Outlook on its
own I just don't know for sure. Sorry.

True, but a) your message may be blocked as spam and b) some older SMTP
servers may expose the contents of BCC if you don't have anything in the TO
field. Rare, but not unheard of.

Well - there are two different kinds of DLs in Exchange - distribution
groups in the server itself (in AD or Exchange directory depending on the
version). In a contacts folder, it's actually a bit higher than 100 but am
not entirely sure (I trust Sue's numbers more than my own memory)

The limit in Outlook is usually not in Outlook at all - but at the ISP's
mail server.

Thanks for the info. Did not know that messages could be
blocked by spam without an entry in the TO field or that
the BCC could be exposed. Good to know. As for the DL's
I knew there were 2 but did not know the limit for sure.
I had heard or read somewhere about the 100 limit but
didn't know if it was correct at all. But again, thanks
for the better info. Just goes to show that I have more
to learn! :)

Yep!

the BCC could be exposed.

As I said, that's rare and I've never seen it - but I have heard of it.

We all do! (well, maybe not Sue).
