Hi,

I am currently having problems with my Icons constantly refreshing after
using/closing Explorer. I have add the "Max Cached Icons" value (as
string) into the registry. It worked for a while but now the icons are
refreshing again and the Max Cached Icons value keeps getting changed from
a string value to a DWord value set at 2000. I am aware that this is a
default value from looking up various sites to fix this issue but I am now
at my wits end.

I have tried creating a new user but to no avail, deleting the
IconCache.db file and using TweakUI (XP version) to rebuild. I don't
remember when this started happening. Could it be anything to do with the
display driver?

Please help.

Spec: Windows SP2 with all updates applied, AMD XP 2800+, 768mb Ram, ATI
AIW 9800Pro Graphics Card,

Many thanks in advance
Jamie

Remove TweakUI and see if that stops the Max Cached Icons data type from changing. Note that TweakUI is unsupported for a reason.

Hi

Thanks for the link but I already had that installed through searching
previous to this occasion. I have re-installed it again anyway and set it
to 8192. Fingers crossed!

I'll try un-installing Tweak UI as George suggested (thanks) to see if
that has an effect but to be honest I don't think Tweak UI is causing the
issue. I have had it installed for along time before this happened.

Will report after testing both solutions.

Thanks again and if any further advice is available I await with eagerness
before I go down the road of a clean fresh start.

Jamie
