How do I alter the master account settings so that Windows Mail will use the
correct account information in the reply function?

By default, Windows Mail will use the account to which the message was sent
when replying.

Hi PA Bear,

Thank you for responding to my question, but, in this case, eventhough the
email has been sent to doghouse1 (the correct address), when I hit reply, it
places my secondary account (Linda) in the from position. This is causing me
a problem because when I respond to two lists I am on, the servers don't
recognize the second address and bounce my posts. I can change it manually,
but it's a real pain. As other posters have noted, when I compose a new
post, the from address is the primary or correct one. The emails I am
talking about come from two servers that are not even aware that I have a
second email address so they cannot be sending to it. I think this is a bug
in Vista, but I haven't had any luck finding a fix or workaround other than
the manual change thing. Someone else mentioned that it might have something
to do with a master account setting, but I haven't found any reference to a
master account within Windows Mail. Any other ideas you may have would be
most welcome. Thanks.

Linda

Windows Mail does not use the terminology 'master account',
but its 'default account' does pretty much the same thing.
When replying, Windows Mail uses the account identity which
downloaded that message. In a few cases, Windows Mail is not
able to ascertain which account downloaded the message.
Some antivirus programs strip the account data from the message.
To monitor this possibility, add the 'Account' column to the message
list pane.

Hi Gary,
Hope you had a good New Year. I have a question: After you email someone,
how do you delete their address from the contact list to the left of To.
I'll save it to a folder if I need it for future reference. It's going to get
unmanageable after awhile.
Thanks Gary!!!

One then assumes that both addresses are aliases for the same mailbox and
that "Linda" is the default address for the mailbox. This is not a bug in
Vista or Windows Mail and the same thing would happen in OE/WinXP.

Clicking to the left of "To:" opens the regular Contacts list.
If you don't want recipients added to the Contacts list automatically:
Tools, Options, Send, uncheck "Automatically put people..."
