Hi - does anyone know how I would be able to mark and return hand
written
notes on student work submitted in the form of office documents sent
as
email attachments? This would save me carrying loads of paper
about....

Thanks,

Sounds like you should ask in a Word newsgroup.
You have posted this question to the wrong newsgroup.
The access in this groups title refers to Microsoft Access, a database
program.
Please repost to the correct newsgroup for the program you are using.
I would suggest you include your Windows and Office version number in
your message. It might make a difference.

Not exactly within the scope of this newsgroup, but it is easily done in
both Word and Excel. You can use the drawing applets (which include text
boxes).

What sort of "office documents"? Word?

Note that this newsgroup is for a different program, the database software
Access. You may get better results posting in a Word newsgroup, but yes, Word
does provide annotation tools.
