Mapped Drive Timing out

When using Windows XP (sp2) to map a network drive, it is becoming
disconnected after a certain amount of time. I can go into My Computer and
click right into it and it reconnects but can't save to it from applications
if I don't do that first. How do I fix this?

If you find out, I'd certainly like to know, as well, as this is
a PITA to me.

The server is dropping the connection.

Isn't this an example of the pot calling the kettle black? i.e.,
in virtually all homes and even smaller businesses the NOS is
Windoze own, is it not? Certainly is in my case. So, if Bill the
Gates thinks it is the server, he should look in the mirror and
fix it.

I see there are both fair and foul ways to fix this in the KB
article you cite, which I will look into. But, claiming that a
low time-out limit of 15 minutes to save resources is ludicrous!
After all, polling a modern home network can't take all that
much memory and CPU cycles, compared to the big hog - Windoze
itself.

You want to adjust it or whine about it? It's merely a
setting.
I like whine with my cheese.

I looked at the solutions and didn't like any of them. I have
no clue as to what the hell the server is to set it from a DOS
window and don't do casual Registry hacks for PITAs, as they
often cause major PITAs. And, since I am well-known as a
Microcrap KB and CU basher, I hardly trust the author's of the
OS to have the faintest clue how to tune it.

So, how do /you/ do this stuff?
