Hi,

Just got vista with new laptop but get error "message can not be imported
from MAPI client".
I noticed other comms that said move .dbx to vista then import but having no
luck.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Regards,
Michael.

Exchange doesn't have DBX files.

Data files created by Exchange (Outlook) should be type .PST.
Only Outlook Express creates .DBX files.

You're attempting to import from Microsoft Outlook (a .PST file) which you
cannot do without installing Outlook on the computer you're using to do the
transfer. Outlook is the "MAPI Client" the error message is complaining
about and must be present and functional in order to open and read the
contents of the .PST file You can either:

1. Install Outlook on your Vista laptop, connect it to the .PST file you
have from your old machine, and go on about your business, or transfer
everything into Windows Mail (Outlook 2003 and 2007 both work fine under
Vista; earlier versions of Outlook run under Vista, but have some issues).

2. Convert everything on your OLD PC from Outlook to Outlook Express (which
will create the missing .DBX files), take these .DBX files to your Vista
lapto,,and import these into Windows Mail.
