Hi, I am frustrated in my attempted to remove a partition in the hard drive
of an Older Gateway Mini Tower. It originally had Win95 then Win XP on it
and was gifted to our small library. The total disk space is adequate for XP
Pro which is what I want to install with a few apps.
I successfully installed XP pro but it cannot use the partitioned space and
will not allow SP 2 to be added.

Does anyone know of a tool or app that can remove the partition so I can get
on with the install and put this machine to use in the library.

Many thanks to all for your time.

Chris Smith.

Not sure you can do much about it now, except to use Partition Magic (or other
partition editor) on it.

Or you can boot from and reinstall a clean version of XP. While in the setup for XP
there is a screen that allows you to delete partitions and create a new partition for
XP.

Hope this helps.

You could also boot off a Windows 98 Bootdisk and use either fdisk or
gdisk to delete the partition, then create a new partition within XP.
You can also merge the two partitions if you turned them into Dynamic
Disks (assuming your are running XP Pro). This would save you from
purchasing software, but it would not be as good as doing a clean
install and simply deleting all partitions during the setup phase ;)
