Does anyone know of an application that allows you to check,
seperately, a few email accounts with the same email client?

Yeah. Outlook Express. Tools>Send and Receive. Then select the account
you want to send and/or receive to and/or from.
 
Most email clients will do this -

Outlook
Outlook Express
Mozilla Thunderbird

to name a few

Lots of email clients can do this. Search.
