Slashdot has an interesting article about adware today - something which
is close the heart of this board:
http://developers.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/01/15/0141236
One way you can /help/ protect yourself (it's by no means a panacea) is
by fiddling with the HOSTS file:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
This piece of software is also on the PL CD2006 as HostsFile.
One though that occured to me which would be neat is to have a kind of
whitelist and blacklist of software. An applications md5sum could be
calculated, and compared against the list, to see if what you were
installing was OK. Problem is, there's no-one to bell the cat.
