In looking for a driver for a AuthenTec AES2810 finger print reader,
I had so cleanup to do from crap from this site.

I consider this site malware.

Maybe some who makes the hosts file can include it.

I think's it's foolish to get drivers from anywhere other than the
original manufacturer.

It may be just me, but I have problems trusting a site
that looks like a pirate, phishing, hacker site and
is registered in Pakistan.

Assuming it is a malicious site, why did you post the URL uobfuscated ?

Sites are not malware. sites can be malicious or host malicious code but a

site is not software, it is a place, and thus can't be malware.

You shouldn't have gone to that site in the first place. If you want driver

and or associate software for the AuthenTec AES2810 you go to the

manufacturer of the system incorporating it or the manuafcturer of the

device.

So if I understand you, you have never gone to a site and had problems ?

Since that site knowingly keeps malware, I consider it damaging.

Thus the full site address.

I don't intentionally hurt people like that site does.

I think you are a bit naive about how many of those sites exist.

I have already been there. The version above is for Win 7 +.

I have tried other items from that site too.

I have even tried installing every version that HP has for my laptop.

Frustrating thing is that I had the fingerprint sensor working at one time.

What about the right-most tab "Common for AES readers" ?

"Version description: Common Driver for AES Readers

Platform(s): both 32bit and 64bit:
Windows XP, Server 2008,
Windows 7, Windows 8,
Server 2008 R2 64-bit

I don't know what it does, but at least it covers WinXP.

I have already been there. The version above is for Win 7 +.

There are XP drivers there, too.

It's very unlikely that anyone else would make drivers for obscure
hardware like this. They would have no motivation... unless their real
intention was to fool people into installing malware.

If the original manufacturer doesn't have a driver, you can almost bet
that nobody else does, either.

That's what "reputation analysis" is all about.

Always be suspicious.

If I said "get your drivers from www.43568.com",
does that URL suggest legitimate driver might live there ?

Why would anyone store drivers on such a site ?
Why such a goofy URL ?

And that's just the first level of analysis.

*******

Another method, is this site. Tack the URL of your suspect,
on the end of the URL. Here, I test google.com to see
if it is legitimate.

http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/google.com

As time goes by, you'll acquire more and more methods,
for "testing before usage" the things off the Internet.

I use a Linux VM and WINE, to disassemble packages for
a look. (That's how I start looking for toolbars - I
check to see if the installer has a plugin folder or the
like.) Or, I upload something to virustotal.com .

While none of my methods are foolproof, they beat
random clicking any day.
