Built Xp on new partition - everything great except this one little
thing: I keep getting prompted to run the malware checker from
auto-updater. I selected CUSTOM install , unchecked the box to run it
and checked the box to " not bother me again about this". BUT every time
I boot - there it is. This is gonna be a monthly download - I don't want
it.....

I haven't activated yet ( since I'm still customizing the install) -
maybe that's why it's ignoring my feedback ??
If not, how to prevent this one program from bothering me. Other than
turning off auto-updater
Not a big deal - just curious.

I finished the XP install - activated via phone (their voice recognition
worked fine - much better than dealing with the overseas humans - sad ,
huh ) and now that I've visited windowsupdate, I was able to mark that
update as a "don't bother me again" file.
I couldn't do that prior to activation and I wanted all my stuff
installed first.

I don't like that new WGA feature either. I would prefer to be able to
install all the updates, programs and devices and see how it runs for
awhile before activating.

Maybe you misunderstood: I DID run it for a while, get all the updates
etc before activating ....you have 30 days after install. I installed
XP and turned on autoupdate. After first reboot it did update XP - got
about 15 KB updates and I installed them - prior to activation. Once I
had the PC with all apps tweaked THEN I activated ( today). I did that
because the first time I installed XP on this PC, I activated right away
and within a month or so ( after installing/uninstalling apps), I booted
up one day and HAD to "reactivate due to changes" ( I had updated my
video card driver earlier in the week ?? ). I was told there's some
formula that XP compares "current config" to "activated config". THIS
time I waited until all apps/drivers done, so the "formula" should be
fine. The only problem was - prior to activation I could not " have
windowsupdate remember not to bother me with this one update". BTW, if
others get the prompt to install this file from windowsupdate, you can
choose " don;t bother me with this update again", BUT rerun
windowsupdate and it will remind you about the previous month's file and
on and on until all months are ignnored - one at a time - how stupid is
that ?? It's easier for THEM to write one file per month but each and
every user has to officially declare that he does not want this run each
month ? How about giving all of them the same name / KB # so " I don't
want this" = "I don't EVER want this "
