Hi, my church uses powerpoint to project songs on a huge screen. right now we
have about 200 songs typed up in powerpoint. Is there a way that I can have
it so that default monitor is the secondary(projector)? because right
now..before every song I have to hurry up and go to Slide Show>Set up Show>
(and select the secondary monitor.......AND THEN PLAY THE PRESENTATION. That
is a hassle, and a lot of times they start singing before I get a chance to
display it. I hope there is way for this, or a way to batch conver each file
to have the sec monitor checked.

Also OFF TOPIC: is there a way that I can convert the 200 songs from ppt to
pps all at once? thx

The monitor setting is at the application level, not the presentation level.
Once you set it to the secondary monitor it should remain set. Is that not
happening?

You should be able to use Google to search for Batch Rename freeware.

What version of PowerPoint are you running? Is this on a laptop where the
laptop is the primary monitor and the projector is the secondary? Maybe there
is something about your work flow that I don't understand. Is each song a
separate presentation file? Could you give us more detail of your step by step
process?

no, I have to set it everytime....any suggestions?

Do you open the file by doubleclicking its icon and close it by quitting entirely?
That would account for this, since you're quitting PPT each time.
Ah, and since they're PPS files, that's likely what you're doing.

Try this, it may help:

Start PowerPoint first, then minimize it.
Now doubleclick your PPS file to start it.
When done, press ESC to dismiss the PPS.
Start the next PPS and so on.

Since PPT will remain running through all of this, it should retain the dual
monitor settings. I'm guessing here since I don't have a dual monitor setup to
test on. ;-)

Oh and to batch rename files (in C:\MySongFiles\ for example)

Open a Command Prompt window (Start, Run, type CMD and click OK)

Type: C:
then press Enter (if the prompt already says C:, there's no need to do this)

Type: cd \MySongFiles
then press Enter

Type: ren *.ppt *.pps
then press Enter

Type: exit
then press Enter

You're done.

[TOP ISSUE - Are you having difficulty opening presentations in PowerPoint
that you just created (you can save, but not open)? -
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329820]

Hello,

Each time PowerPoint starts on a multi-monitor enabled system, it will
default to a specific display. There is no way to change this default from
within PowerPoint. The workaround, if your display hardware and drivers
allow it, is to change, at the system level, which display output is your
primary display. Not all combinations of display hardware and software will
allow you to change which display is your primary display. And, even in
some situations where this is allowed, it requires some hardware
modifications (changing jumpers on adapters, bios settings, switching slots
used by adapters, etc.).

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that it's important that
PowerPoint should provide an application or presentation-level (not session
level) method of persisting this setting, don't forget to send your
feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft by either:

PREFERRED METHOD:

A) If you are using Microsoft's web-based, online newsreader for Office
communities
(http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.p
ublic.powerpoint), check to see whether or not the suggestion has been
submitted before (Show -> Suggestions for Microsoft) and, if so, add your
vote to the suggestion submission. If the suggestion has not been submitted
before, click on the "New" drop-down menu and choose "Suggestion for
Microsoft" from directly within the newsreader web page.

OR, NEXT BEST METHOD:

B) If you are using another newsreader (such as Microsoft Outlook Express),
submit your suggestion using your web browser at the following address:
http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

ok:
1) I have one folder with 200+ *.ppt files
2) I double click one of them, and opens up powerpoint and all the slides.
3) I do the "setup show" thing to set it to seconday display, and then I
view the slide on the projector.
4) I then close out real quick and go back to the open dialog box to get
ready for next song.
5) thats it basically
Configuration:
1) I have the computer one monitor(primary) then another monitor next to
it(secondary) and a projector (also seconday), and a TV (also secondary).
2) so the seconday display is basically shows on TV Projector and monitor
number 2.
3) because I also videotape, sometimes I ahve to record the se display. (for
outlines of studies...etc.) thats basically it.

Is there a way that I can change a configuration file in powepoint to make
the secondary the default, or a registry value, or even bath process all
files to make seconday as the default.

By "close out real quick" ... what exactly do you mean? It sounds like you're quitting
PPT and restarting it. If so, that's your problem.

Did you try the suggestion I made earlier?

Eugen,
You might also want to visit the community at www.ChuchMedia.Net
(media/projection/video etc. etc. used in support of worship services)
Your better "fix" might be one the worship softwares available.

Renaming (from *.ppt to *.pps) can also be done in a DOS window.
Since that (a rename) is all the difference there is between *.ppt's and
*.pps's.
