Can Anyone tell me how to make the above file accessable
as I have virus in the file but because it is not
accessable my Virus program cannot get rid of it. I have
tried every virus checker that I can only AVG Resident
Shield detecs it. But cannot access the file to get rid
of it.

You're generally not able to remove individual files from System Restore
Points (that's what's in System Volume Information).

Go to Control Panel, System, System Restore. Turn it off. Reboot and turn
it back on. This flushes your old restore points and automatically creates a
new one.

Go to My Computer - Properties - System Restore Tab -
turn off Systyem Restore and Re-Boot - now turn System
Restore back on again - that should clear it

As Doug has said, the best way to clear a virus out of the System
Volume Information is to stop the System Restore, reboot, and then
restart the System Restore. However, if you have Restore Points that
you'd really rather not lose, and know which one is corrupted:

Bruce,

I gained access to the System Volume Folder after reading the article. I see a
list of folders named RP 187 throug RP 202. I assume that they are system
restore points.
Is it possible to delete or even back-up those folders, or will it corrupt
System Restore?

No, sorry, not possible. The restore points are "chains." Backing up one
will not get all of the links that are needed for a successful rollback.

Control Panel/System/System Restore/check "turn off system restore on all
drives".
Reboot computer and this should delete all old files, then turn System
restore back on.
Hope this helps...Dave

It is the folder (not file) containing restore points. The virus is in
one of them - but it can do no harm unless you were to restore to that
point. So wait a day or two for a new point to have been made (or go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore
and create a new clean one now, then go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup
and use the button in More Options to delete all but this most recent
point - the virus will go along with it

You can see that folder and its contents if you have Folder Options -
View set to show Hidden files, and *not* Hide Protected mode ones
But *don't* try to do anything with the files there manually or you will
get system restore fouled up
