I have tried (shift + printscreen) and
just plain(printscreen), but no go so far.

Does shift+print screen doing anything on plain windows?

For your question you can try Fraps (fraps.com) if u dont want change your
dvd player.

I would like to have some scenes from movies saved as screenshots. I have
done this with AC2, a role play game, but how can i do this this with a dvd
movie that is playing? Please do tell. I have tried (shift + printscreen) and
just plain(printscreen), but no go so far.

I have found that it helps if you have a PC DVD player that has a Capture Frame command.
I use Nero ShowTime. The shortcut key is c. After I press the letter c, I open Paint
Shop Pro, click the Edit menu/Paste as New Image, then save as a JPG.

Copying the Screen
Key Description
Prt Scn Copies the whole screen to the clipboard as a graphic. Use MS Paint to paste the image.
Depending on Prt Scn key settings on the Misc tab of a Dos program's properties, a Dos program can still print to printer with Prt Scn key.
Alt + Prt Scn Copies the active window to the clipboard as a graphic.

To capture a screen from a DVD or other hardware type playback, disable Overlays in Media Player's Tools menu - Options - Performance - Advanced. Media Player has its own similar feature for DVDs only (Ctrl + I) but is usually not available due to computer hardware issues and also content protection issues.

If sending the screenshot by email save it as a jpeg, gif, or png file before sending (in MS Paint, File - Save As then choose a format in Save As Type).

Run MS Paint

Ok all of you have great advice and here's what ive done.. Ive tried using
(shift print screen and paste to paint), ( ctrl printscreen then paste to
paint), and ( Alt printscreen and paste to paint)--- when i paste the image
to Paint it shows up great, but when i try to save any of these images as a
jpeg, giff, png, or bitmap -- the image dissapears except for an opaque dark
looking screen. What's the deal here?

Windows isn't drawing the screen so can't capture it.

You have to turn off Hardware acceleration first in WMP Options so that
it's writing via the screen buffer.

I must be running into an infringement issue here. Ive dissabled the hardware
acceleration options in WMP, but still cannot capture the image. Ive even
tried all of these different suggestions in Power DVD. But to no avail. Still
trying to save this image as a screenshot to use as my wallpaper/backdrop
when i log on.
