Hi ,
I am working on windowsXp pro. i have some friends who are
using my system . i have 4 partitions all with NTFS file
system. Is there any way to put a password for a folder or
something so that i can prevent other users from opening
up my folder and accessing my information in there.
I was able to try creating a Compressed Folder and set
password for it. I stored almost 2 GB info in it and when
i am trying to set the password for the Compressed
folder , it is trying to set password for all files in
it . Anyway , even if the password set for all files r
complete , everytime , i click on a file , its gonna ask
me for the password. I want to know whether i can set a
password or prevent the folder from being accessed.
I have a trail version of a software which disables the
FOLDER options , where i can HIDE my fiels and disable the
folder options. So i thought , there should be a registry
Key to edit to disable and enable folder options in
Windows Explorer.
Any body who has some idea about this can let me know.
I know some softwares like FOLDER GUARD and others which
can protect your folder with a password. But that costs
much.
I believe there should be an option to change values int
he registry to show folder options and disable folder
options. I am looking for it now.
Thank you
Jogesh

Stop thinking about add-on products, passwords on compressed files,
registry entries, etc. Just stop.

First, read the articles on your computer in section called "System
Administration". Setup accounts for yourself and each of the other
users. The standard permissions will grand each user their own
'private' space. Use it. Have everyone log in under their own ID and
password. As you learn more about system administration and
permissions, then you can setup shared areas if you like.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
