making back up's

i try to transfer (copy) files from my hard disc to a
CD-RW ( station E ). Windows XP prepares the files for
transfer and i get the msg "files are ready to be
transferred"
When i give the instruction " transfer files to CD"
the system starts but soon produces an error msg " cannot
complete because probably the CD is not usuable"
i am using brand new CD-RW's
PLEASE HELP
