is it possible to make a disk containing SP2 to be used to upgrade
installations of XP or XP Pro that do not include any service packs
(older versions )on their disks?

i've heard that it can be a disaster to connect a machine without
windows firewall to the internet to download and install
it--specifically, i've heard that "blaster will take down your machine
within 5 minutes."

thanks.

ps--i'm fine with sending ms $4 (or whatever shipping is) for the disk
if it's not possible.

Read all about it here:

I think you can still order the free CD from MS.

You can order SP-2 (Free to many locations) or download and burn to CD, both
options Step 1 on this link:

Windows XP all versions have a firewall:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283673
You should ALWAYS have some type of firewall enabled before physically
connecting the computer to the network.
Unprotected computers can be attacked in seconds, hours or not at all, in
any event poor odds if you have any concern for computer security.

wow, i didn't realize that xp with no sp's has an "internet connection
