making a German XP see windowsupdate/google, etc in English?

hi all,

I'm on a machine with German XP installed (my girlfriend's), and I've
noticed that pages will come up in German that I expected to see in
English, eg. google.com immediately redirects to google.de, and a
search returns alot of German page hits. And
windowsupdate.microsoft.com gives me the page in German. I'd like to
fool the browser or XP, so I can read the English version of these
pages, not the German ones. (and also find a way to switch conveniently
from German to English internet browsing, so we can both use the
machine).

From IE open Tools, Internet Options and press Languages. Add German and English to the list and put English on top when you want to view pages in that language.

German XP requires updates for that language. Do not mix the language for
Windows Update.

Thanks for the reply, but it doesn't seem to work. I put English and
German in the IE Options language list box, with English on top,
reboot, and then try to go to:

windowsupdate.microsoft.com,
but what I get is:
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=de
(note the "de" on the end == german).

Ditto for google.com, which yields google.de in the browser. Any other
ideas?
