Make folders private

I have checked the option "Make this folder private" in the Sharing and Security tab of some of the folders in my profile (I am the administrator for the PC). This option is no longer accessible and I cannot make these folders public again. I have checked the Knowledge Base for help, but there is no help on UNckecking the option. Can anybody help???
