Maintaining a Broadband connection

Hi all,

Hope that someone out there can help me.
I have just signed up to broadband, dsl (yippee!!).

I have my Windows XP set up so that all four members of the family have
their own log-in and settings.

The problem is that when one user logs off and another signs in, the
broadband connection is lost. Is there any way to maintain the
connection at all times so that it is only broken when the pc is turned
off thus saving each user from having to re-connect to BB each time they
log-in to their settings?

TIA

Hi

Hm, interesting questione. You usually have a program running that
connects to your ISP. If you log-out (not fast user switch), your program is
closed and therefore you are disconnected. The program you use should be ran
as a service not as a standard windows app. This means that guys who wrote
the program should write a new one to work as a service because you can't
just run any program as a service (at least not to my knowledge). I don't
know if there's another way but there probably is (that is something other
then using a router).

I doubt this is a Windows problem.
Apparently you didn't have the problem prior to changing to DSL, so bounce
it back to your new ISP for them to sort out.

Hi,
How did you set up log-in and settings to allow (I'm assuming limited users)
users to control the DSL connection? I have Verizon DSL and am using the
Westell 2200 modem/router. After initial setup using the Verizon CD I
removed the Verizon Online software and the MSN Premium software. I simply
have a Local Area Connection. The only change I made to the router was to
change the access password from what Verizon had set when I first installed
from their CD which was set to the same password as the logon for Verizon.
Setting this way only allows the administrator to control the NIC as far as
enable and disable. I only use limited user to surf the Internet. I set the
administrator account to enable the NIC and then log off and log on as user
and the DSL remains up and running. I do not use user switching. When I want
to do administrative tasks I simply log on and disable the NIC. If I am in
limited user mode and shutdown the computer the next time I restart the
computer and log on as user the DSL is still up and running. As a limited
user I am not allowed to control the DSL connection.
