I introduced to-day another of my friends to Mailwasher and the installation
went without any problems.

Only when he downloaded (or wanted to) messages the Sign-on window came up
with his Username and Password already in it. But then a notice:

"Authentication failed. Plaintext passwords not supported for this account"

He uses Verizon for his ISP, same as I, and I have never seen this message.

I went to mailwasher's FAQ and read all of them, but this is not explained.

What does it mean and what does he need to do?

You/he need to find a support forum for Mailwasher.

News://news.jumpingcholla.com

Than subscribe to the " Firetrust.MW-Beta " Newsgroup. It's monitored by the
MailWasher guys ( Firetrust ).

Cheers,

Tom

There's a forum on castlecops.com.

I think you have to register to post, and the forum setup stinks but
your friend should find help there.

Since Verizon has a choice between MSN and Yahoo for email, you're looking
at POP3 and junky internet mail service as a choice at verizon dsl
installation.
Believe mailwasher only works with POP3 mailservers automatically getting
the account information from XP.

Hi,

you are right, theoretically ! But it is still monitored by Firetrust
Employees and since I use MailWasher ( maybe 3 - 4 years ) it is ALWAYS in
BETA ! Means, they always working on it and come out with new builds.

Lately it was quiet, since they changed programmers, so I would expect there
will be a new build of MW in about 2 -3 weeks.

The Newsgroup is still active !

Cheers,

Tom

Hi,

that is not correct, MailWasher supports the following MailFormats :

1. POP
2. IMAP
3. Hotmail
4. AOL

Hope this helps.
