i need to create a mailing list which will consists of names and addresses
from a group of about a 100 files. after seating at the computer for four
hours I end up here. By the way I am computer illererate, HELP!!!

Any particular reason to do this in MS Access? There are a great many
programs available that excel at managing a mailing list.
 
Not sure if you mean 100 records (names and addresses) or 100 different
files, each with name records.

Either way, no point in creating a rolodex program when there are many
cheap/free ones. Start with Windows Address Book or Outlook, both of which
you probably already have. "MyMailList" is a friendly entry level program
that retails for ~$50.

If you really want the experience of creating an Access database, then start
with one of the included templates. Follow the prompts and it will create
all the tables, forms, reports, that you'll need.

Any of these solutions will allow you to import your name records from other
files.
